Lagos Assembly Speaker impeached for “spending N17bn on gate”

Information reaching Diaspora Digital Media has it that members of the Lagos State House of Assembly have impeached Speaker Mudashiru Obasa.
His impeachment comes amid allegations of financial impropriety and abuse of office.
Among allegations against was spending a whooping 17 billion on a gate to the assembly complex.

His impeachment also comes amidst allegations of financial misconduct, including the operation of 64 bank accounts linked to his Bank Verification Number (BVN).
Obasa’s impeachment is reportedly connected to a series of controversial financial dealings, including the use of multiple names and dates of birth to conceal his identity.
He allegedly operated accounts with various banks, including Polaris Bank, Zenith Bank, Access Bank, Ecobank Nigeria, Stanbic IBTC Bank, Guaranty Trust Bank, United Bank for Africa, First City Monument Bank, and Wema Bank, using different names such as Obasa Abdulrahman Gbadunola and Gabriel Adedoyin Savage.
The impeached Speaker was also accused of awarding contracts to companies he owned, including Adesav International Ventures, Fabric Splash Ventures, Swifthill International Ventures, and Quick Solution International.
Furthermore, he allegedly approved N258 million for printing invitation cards for the inauguration of the legislature, two months after the event.
Obasa also awarded contracts to himself using the various companies he owned, and how he had been granted approval by the Assembly to spend millions of naira on questionable projects.
Following his impeachment, Hon. Lasbat Meranda, the Deputy Speaker, has taken over as the new Speaker, while Hon. Fatai Mojeed has been elected as the Deputy Speaker.
