Premier League clubs spent whopping £2.08bn during 2024 transfer window

It’s the midway point of the Premier League season. The winter transfer window is also upon us. Clubs would be having a go at the transfer market in order to freshen up or strengthen their squads.
Huge money was spent during the summer transfer window. The 20 Premier League clubs collectively spent £2.08billion, almost matching the second highest ever of two summers ago, plus only just over £300m less than the summer 2023 record.
When it comes to money received in a summer transfer record by the 20 Premier League clubs, a new record was set in summer 2022, with £850m received.
However, that was dwarfed by a massive leap up to £1.4billion in summer 2023, with of course so many of the major deals done between Premier League clubs.
Now this summer 2024 window has seen that record broken again, with £1.5billion received by the 20 Premier League clubs.
A fair few major deals seeing clubs selling players to those in other countries, including Alvarez leaving Man City to go to Atletico Madrid for £82m.
So which Premier League clubs spent the most and which spent the least?

The January window…
The January transfer window in England is now open, and Premier League clubs are busy strengthening their squads for the second half of the season.
This window offers teams a chance to address any weaknesses, boost their survival chances, or even make a push for European spots.
Several clubs have already identified key areas to focus on.
*Arsenal, for instance, is looking to strengthen its midfield and forward lines, although they might wait until the summer to make significant moves.
*Aston Villa is targeting an attacking midfielder and a versatile right-sided defender, while Bournemouth has already agreed on a deal with DC United for young defender Matai Akinmboni.
*Chelsea is still on the hunt for a new striker, with Ipswich’s Liam Delap being one of the players on their radar.
*Liverpool, meanwhile, is facing a battle to keep Trent Alexander-Arnold, Mohamed Salah, and Virgil van Dijk, all of whom are out of contract in the summer and can speak to foreign clubs.
*Manchester City is looking to bolster its holding midfield and central defense, with Pep Guardiola confirming that the club needs help in these areas.
However, they’ve already ruled out moves for Martin Zubimendi and Bruno Guimaraes.
Other clubs, like Everton and Fulham, are also eyeing new signings to boost their survival chances and push for European spots, respectively.
The January transfer window is always exciting, and this year promises to be no exception.
With several high-profile players potentially on the move, it’ll be interesting to see how the landscape of the Premier League changes over the next few weeks.
It’s expected to be a busy window, but can clubs eclipse the £2.08bn mark set in the summer of 2024? I doubt.
