President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has used the occasion of his third year in office to reaffirm his administration’s commitment to stabilising Nigeria’s economy, strengthening national security, and advancing long term development under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
In a nationwide broadcast from the State House, Abuja, the President reflected on his administration’s journey since assuming office on May 29, 2023, stating that the government deliberately chose bold reforms aimed at repositioning the country rather than maintaining unsustainable economic practices.
He explained that his administration inherited a fragile economic environment marked by fiscal pressures, subsidy burdens, and foreign exchange distortions, which required urgent structural reforms to prevent a deeper economic crisis.
According to the President, the initial phase of the reforms was difficult for citizens, but necessary to restore macroeconomic stability, rebuild investor confidence, and create a foundation for sustainable growth.
He noted that the removal of fuel subsidy and reforms in the foreign exchange market were key decisions that helped reduce pressure on public finances and improve transparency in economic management.
The President stated that although Nigerians have faced economic hardship as a result of these adjustments, early signs of recovery are beginning to emerge, particularly in revenue generation and investor engagement.
He highlighted ongoing fiscal reforms designed to improve government efficiency, expand the tax base, and reduce wasteful spending, adding that these measures are already contributing to improved public revenue performance.
In the area of infrastructure, President Tinubu said his administration is actively investing in road construction, power sector reforms, and transport networks aimed at improving connectivity and stimulating economic activity across the country.
He explained that several highway projects, bridge constructions, and regional development corridors are currently ongoing in different parts of Nigeria as part of efforts to improve trade and mobility.
On the power sector, the President noted progress in expanding electricity generation capacity, upgrading transmission infrastructure, and promoting renewable energy solutions to increase access to reliable electricity for homes and businesses.
In the health sector, he disclosed that thousands of primary healthcare centres are being rehabilitated nationwide, alongside targeted interventions aimed at improving maternal health, reducing child mortality, and expanding access to critical medical services.
The President also pointed to ongoing investments in cancer treatment facilities, dialysis centres, and other specialised healthcare services as part of efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s healthcare system.
On education, he said the administration is expanding access through school infrastructure development, improved funding mechanisms, and student support programmes designed to ensure that children from low income families can complete their education.
He added that vocational training and skills acquisition programmes are being scaled up to equip young Nigerians with practical competencies needed in technology, agriculture, and industrial development.
Security remains a major focus of the administration, with President Tinubu acknowledging the persistent challenges while highlighting progress recorded in military operations against terrorism, banditry, and other forms of violent crime.
He said coordinated security operations have led to the rescue of abducted citizens, disruption of criminal networks, and improved safety along major transportation routes in several regions of the country.
The President emphasized ongoing investments in intelligence gathering, modern military equipment, and inter agency coordination aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s security architecture and improving response capabilities.
On agriculture and food security, he stated that his administration is prioritising local food production through support for farmers, distribution of agricultural inputs, and expansion of mechanised farming initiatives.
He explained that these efforts are aimed at reducing dependence on food imports, stabilising food prices, and improving livelihoods in rural communities across the country.
President Tinubu also highlighted his government’s focus on youth empowerment, describing young Nigerians as central to the success of the Renewed Hope Agenda.
He said programmes targeting entrepreneurship, digital skills development, and employment creation are being expanded to ensure that young people are better positioned to contribute to national development.
In governance, the President reaffirmed his commitment to transparency, accountability, and institutional reforms aimed at improving service delivery and restoring public trust in government institutions.
He noted that anti corruption measures and public financial management reforms remain key priorities of his administration.
The President urged Nigerians to remain patient and supportive of ongoing reforms, stating that while the journey has been challenging, the foundation being laid will deliver long term economic stability and prosperity.
He expressed confidence that Nigeria is on a path toward recovery, emphasizing that consistent implementation of current policies will lead to stronger economic growth, improved living standards, and greater national resilience.
