Professor John Ebeh of Prince Abubakar Audu University Abducted in Kogi, Gunmen Demand N10 Million Ransom.

Professor John Ebeh, a faculty member in the Department of Philosophy at Prince Abubakar Audu University (PAAU), Anyigba, has been abducted by suspected gunmen in Agbeji, a suburb of Anyigba, located in the Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State.

An eyewitness, identified as Akpai, recounted the harrowing experience, explaining that the hoodlums operated with precision.

“It was like a commando operation… very swift. We noticed a car trailing him aggressively, but we assumed it was one of his friends or colleagues, until we heard gunshots near his gate,” Akpai said.

According to reports by a family source, he confirmed that Professor Ebeh was near his residence when the masked gunmen intercepted him on the evening of Thursday, January 2, 2025. The source shared further details, saying, “Professor Ebeh was almost at his gate, returning from the town, when the assailants struck. Amid the chaos, another vehicle sped in and blocked his car. Masked men then emerged, forced him into their vehicle, and whisked him away at gunpoint.”

The abductors made contact with the professor’s family on Friday night, demanding a N10 million ransom for his release.

As of now, Prince Abubakar Audu University has not yet issued an official statement on the incident. However, a colleague of the professor expressed shock at the abduction, saying, “It’s a deeply distressing situation. I’ve just visited his family to offer my condolences and support during this difficult time.”

The abduction of Professor John Ebeh has raised concerns over rising insecurity in Kogi State and has further highlighted the increasing threat of kidnappings-for-ransom in the region. Authorities are yet to respond with details of any investigation, as the professor’s family remains hopeful for his safe return.
