PSC confirms Opara as FCT Police Commissioner, Eribo replaces Dantawaye in Akwa Ibom
The Police Service Commission (PSC) headed by DIG Argungu Rtd has approved the posting of new Commissioners of Police to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and Akwa Ibom State, as part of a broader shake-up in the police force.
CP Peter Ukachi Opara has been appointed as the substantive Commissioner of Police for the FCT, replacing CP Benneth Igwe who has been promoted to Assistant Inspector General of Police and posted to Zone 7 Abuja as the Zonal Assistant Inspector General of Police.
CP Festus Eribo has been appointed as the new Commissioner of Police for Akwa Ibom State, replacing CP Miller Gagere Dantawaye.
Dantawaye was, in the past 24 hours, announced as the new Commissioner for Akwa Ibom State. No reason was given for the sudden change.
The PSC also approved the posting of new Commissioners of Police to Abia, Lagos, and Ebonyi states, although their names were not disclosed.
CP Opara, the new FCT Commissioner, brings a wealth of experience to his new role.
He has served as Deputy Commissioner, Administration and Finance, Imo State Command, and as Personal Assistant to former Chairman of the Police Service Commission, IGP Mike Okiro (rtd).
CP Eribo, the new Akwa Ibom Commissioner, has also had a distinguished career.
He has served as Assistant Commissioner, Federal Operations, Force Headquarters, and as Area Commander in various states, including Lagos and Oyo.
The PSC in its release signed by Ikechukwu Ani, Head of Press and Public Relations, urged the new commissioners to ensure effective policing and maintain law and order in their respective jurisdictions.
