Manchester City's De Bruyne and Liverpool's Van Dijk in action for their respective clubs

Real Madrid have rejected the opportunity to sign two high-profile free agents, Virgil Van Dijk and Kevin De Bruyne.

Both players are captains of Liverpool FC and Manchester City, as well as the Netherlands and Belgium national teams, respectively.

Credible sources told Diaspora Digital Media that Van Dijk, 33, was offered by his agents to Real Madrid with a proposal for a Bosman move, but the Spanish giants opted not to pursue the experienced defender.

The reason behind this decision lies in Real Madrid’s strategic approach to recruitment, focusing on signing younger players with high potential to build a squad for the future.

Van Dijk, at 33 years old, doesn’t fit into this long-term plan.

Additionally, Real Madrid’s current center-back options, including Antonio Rudiger, Eder Militao, Raul Asencio, and David Alaba, make Van Dijk’s addition unnecessary.

The club is instead looking for younger talent to lead the defence in the long term.

Van Dijk, meanwhile, talks with Liverpool about extending his contract is stalling.

Liverpool, sources, say are cautious about offering a bumper to an aged player nearing the twilight of his career.

Also, De Bruyne is all set to leave serial premier league winners Manchester City after playing a bit part role under Manager Pep Guardiola.

Already attracting interest from the cash cow Saudi Pro League, his agents also offered him as a free agent and even promised the Spanish giants that he will sign a pre-agreement before his eventual move in the summer.

De Bruyne, 33, has hampered by poor form, niggling injures and reduced playing time when fit.

Who are Real’s targets?

As the summer transfer season approaches, moves are already in the pipeline.

Trusted transfer sources have already confirmed that Van Dijk’s teammate and Liverpool’s Vice Captain, Trent Alexander-Arnold, will not renew his contract at the club, opting to join the Bernabeu outfit.

The talented Liverpool full-back, is out of contract at the end of the season.

Another player who has caught Real Madrid’s attention is Alphonso Davies, the Bayern Munich left-back.

Dean Huijsen, a 19-year-old defender from Bournemouth, has also impressed Real Madrid with his outstanding performances.

In addition to these players, Real Madrid is also interested in signing a premium defender in William Saliba of Arsenal.

Piero Hincapie, the Bayer Leverkusen centre-back, is another target for Real Madrid.
