The Federal Government of Nigerian has revealed the identity of the former permanent secretary who absconded with 45 brand new SUVs.
He is the person of Dr. Godknows Boladei Igali, formerly of the Ministry of Power, from Bayelsa state.
Elombah.com gathered that the vehicles recovered were actually 47, including 100 motorcycles.
Recall that Elombah.com published the news how the Federal Government, on Thursday, recovered 40 SUVs from a former permanent secretary but refused to disclosed the names.
The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, in a statement, had said that the unnamed former permanent secretary appropriated the vehicle to himself after leaving office.
The Minister had attributed the discovery to the federal government’s concerted efforts at fighting corruption.
The minister also announced the plan by the government – working through the Code of Conduct Bureau – will commence, starting in 2017, a trial run of electronic asset declaration to facilitate compliance and also to search and retrieve data on the assets of public officers.
In addition, he said, the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption was also working with relevant MDAs, especially the National Bureau of Statistics, to improve data collection on corruption indicators generally.
He said that “once perfected, the data will be shared with government periodically, if possible as regularly as government receives data on inflation and unemployment trends, to indicate trends in corruption and influence government measures to correct the situation before it gets out of hand as we have now.”
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has been investigating Dr. Igali and dug up the history of the vehicles.
EFCC reported that the cars were bought for former President Goodluck Jonathan’s campaign in the 2015 general election.
The anti-graft agency further claimed that the purchases were made with looted funds.
EFCC, however, expressed perplexity as to why Igali did not release the vehicles for the campaign.
The boat capsized on Mr. Igali when an alarm was raised by an artisan, who was called in for repairs.
The confiscated items include SUVs, Toyota Coaster buses, Toyota Hilux trucks and 16-seater buses.
The vehicles, which were seized from several secret locations, included more than 100 motorcycles parked at a facility in Mabushi Area of Abuja.
Igali was earlier this year arrested by the Commission after which he was released on administrative bail.”
He will be arraigned in court soon, according to EFCC.
