Abdulaziz Umar Ganduje, son of former All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has dumped the opposition New Democratic Congress (NDC) and is set to rejoin the ruling APC.
Abdulaziz is expected to formally return to the APC on Monday at the party’s headquarters in Dawakin-Tofa Local Government Area of Kano State.
He was received at his Ganduje Ward on Sunday, where he registered and obtained his APC membership card after leaving the political camp of former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
Party officials said Abdulaziz had reaffirmed his loyalty to the APC and would be welcomed back to the party, which they described as his original political home.
His return to the APC reportedly followed his failure to secure the Dawakin-Tofa/Tofa/Rimin Gado Federal Constituency ticket under the Kwankwasiyya-backed NDC.
Kwankwaso was said to have endorsed Muktar Mustapha Balarabe for the seat instead.
The development reportedly left Ganduje’s son feeling betrayed and prompted his decision to return to the APC.
Abdulaziz’s defection comes weeks after two Kwankwaso loyalists, Senator Rufai Sani Hanga and former Senator Kabiru Gaya, also left the opposition NDC for the APC.
The return of the politicians and their supporters is expected to strengthen the APC and further weaken the Kwankwasiyya movement ahead of the 2027 elections in Kano State.
