The Rotary Club of Abuja Highrise has strengthened its commitment to community service by providing free healthcare services to women, children, and other vulnerable residents in the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC).
The outreach programme, held in Yimitu Village, Waru District, Garki Chiefdom, brought essential medical care to underserved residents as part of the club’s ongoing humanitarian initiatives focused on improving public health in rural communities.
Speaking during the event, President of the Rotary Club of Abuja Highrise, Rotarian Ishaku Maigida, said the outreach was inspired by Rotary’s global motto, “Service Above Self,” and was designed to meet the immediate healthcare needs of mothers, children, and other vulnerable groups.
As part of the exercise, pregnant women received delivery kits to encourage safer childbirth, while children were immunised against polio to help protect them from vaccine-preventable diseases.
Medical professionals also offered free consultations, conducted health screenings, and provided treatment for common illnesses. Residents benefited from eye examinations, routine health checks—including blood pressure, body temperature, and weight assessments—and received prescribed medications at no cost.
Maigida noted that many rural communities continue to face challenges in accessing quality healthcare, making community outreach programmes like this an important way to bridge the gap.
He explained that the initiative was intended not only to provide immediate medical assistance but also to promote healthier living and improve the overall wellbeing of residents, especially women and children.
The Rotary Club president reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to expanding similar humanitarian projects across communities in the Federal Capital Territory. He said the club would continue to invest in sustainable programmes that improve access to healthcare and enhance the quality of life for vulnerable populations.
According to him, the successful outreach represents another step in the club’s ongoing mission to support communities through impactful, people-focused interventions, with plans to reach even more residents in future health campaigns.
