Russia’s ambassador to Pakistan, Albert P. Khorev

Russia’s ambassador to Pakistan, Albert P. Khorev, has on March 25, 2025, dismissed media reports claiming that Russia has found evidence of Pakistan supplying arms to Ukraine.

Khorev disclosed this during a special interaction with the Express Tribune on Tuesday at the Peshawar office.

“We have not found any proof of Pakistani arms supplies in the Ukraine-Russia conflict. All such claims are baseless, ” he said.

Speaking on regional security, Khorev noted that Afghanistan’s efforts to combat militancy were inadequate.

He attributed it to economic challenges and prevailing security conditions in the country.

He also identified Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, (ISIS), as the greatest threat to Russia’s national and regional security.

Khorev assured that Moscow is closely monitoring the situation and working with regional partners under the “Quartet” format to counter-terrorism.

He also highlighted Russia’s collaboration with regional countries under the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) to eliminate militancy.

He reaffirmed Moscow’s support for Pakistan, Afghanistan, and other regional states in tackling militant threats.

According to media reports, Pakistan is being careful about taking sides in the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

While Pakistan supports Ukraine’s independence and territorial integrity, it’s avoiding direct criticism of Russia.

This neutral stance is due to Pakistan’s historical ties with Russia and its desire to maintain good relations with both Ukraine and Russia.

Economic Relations

Pakistan and Ukraine have a significant trade relationship, with a bilateral trade turnover of $411.8 million in 2021.

Ukraine is also a major supplier of wheat to Pakistan, which has been impacted by the ongoing conflict.

Military Cooperation & Humanitarian Aid

There have been reports of Pakistan providing military aid to Ukraine, but Islamabad has denied these claims.

However, Pakistan has sent humanitarian aid to Ukraine.

The aid includes food and medical supplies, and has called for a peaceful resolution to the conflict.

Regional Implications

The Ukraine-Russia conflict has significant implications for Pakistan’s national security.

If Russia alters Ukraine’s borders by force, it could set a precedent that threatens Pakistan’s sovereignty.
