Russian strikes killed eight people across Ukraine on Sunday, a day after Moscow told the United Nations General Assembly that it would pursue its war aims “no matter the circumstances.”
Ukraine’s Interior Minister, Ivan Vyhivskyi, said three people, including a 16-year-old girl, were killed when a children’s centre in the northern Sumy region was hit.
Other overnight attacks killed people in Zaporizhzhia, Kyiv and the southern Odesa region as Russia continued its air campaign into the fifth year of the war.
Ukrainian officials accused Russia of deliberately targeting civilian infrastructure as the country prepares for winter.
President Volodymyr Zelensky said Russian forces had launched more than 2,200 attack drones, 1,650 aerial bombs and 38 missiles across Ukraine in the past week.
He said the attacks hit homes, shops, medical facilities and grain storage warehouses.
In Kyiv, authorities said Russian jet-powered drones struck two kindergartens, two schools, a residential building, an auto repair shop, warehouses and communications facilities.
Officials said 16 sites were damaged in the capital, while emergency teams took injured residents, including teenagers, to hospitals.
Russia’s Defence Ministry said its forces targeted telecommunications centres supporting the Ukrainian military.
The ministry also released images of a drone marked “Digital Detox”, apparently referring to efforts to disrupt internet and communications infrastructure.
It also announced that Russian forces had captured Khrypuny, a village near the eastern border in Ukraine’s Kharkiv region.
Moscow has repeatedly said it intends to continue its military campaign until its stated objectives are achieved.
