The self-proclaimed Prime Minister of Biafra Republic (BRGIE), Simon Ekpa, may have to face troubles as the Enugu State Government has expressed its readiness to provide proof of his atrocities

In a statement released by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia on Friday, the leadership of the state described Ekpa as an individual thriving on criminality and terrorism.

It stated that Ekpa had no interest of the Igbo people but derives joy in their suffering.

The statement said that Enugu State Government was poised to show pieces of evidence that would quicken his prosecution.

The statement reads: ““The Enugu State Government welcomes the arrest of the Finland-based terrorist, Simon Ekpa.

“His arrest and trial will no doubt go a long way in strengthening peace, security, and stability in all parts of the South East.

“This arrest is in line with the demand of Governor Peter Mbah Administration, which has repeatedly made it known that Ekpa is a megalomaniac, common criminal, murderer, and fraudster, who takes joy in feeding fat on the manipulated emotions of Ndigbo and inflicting misery on the South East region.

“Ekpa has for long, and unfortunately from Finland, made a living by creating a siege climate and mentality in the South East, destroying lives, property, and the Igbo trademark of entrepreneurship and hard work.

He thrives on manipulating, exploiting, and extorting the people on the pretext of fighting for their interest and for the restoration of Biafra”.

Ekpa’s arrest

Recall that on Thursday, the Central Criminal Police in Finland announced the arrest of five individuals suspected of terrorist activities.

The primary suspect, Ekpa, was detained for “public incitement to commit a crime with terrorist intent,” while the other four were arrested for “financing a terrorist crime.”

The announcement stated that Ekpa, had promoted violence and crimes in Southeastern Nigeria through his social media channels.

It claimed that Ekpa’s actions led to violence against civilians, authorities, and other crimes in the region.

Who is Simon Ekpa?

Simon Ekpa is a Finnish-based Nigerian activist and former radio host. He is known for his strong advocacy for the independence of Biafra, a region in southeastern Nigeria.

Ekpa has gained significant attention in recent years for his vocal support of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), a separatist group seeking independence for the Igbo people.

He has used his social media platforms and radio shows to promote his views and mobilize support for the Biafran cause.

However, Ekpa’s activities have also been controversial, with some accusing him of promoting hate speech and inciting violence.

His militant wing, Biafra Liberation Army, purportedly created to defend his people against perceived enemies, faces accusations of numerous human rights abuses, including kidnapping and carjacking.

The region feels the impact of Ekpa’s actions.

Many residents live in fear of the BLA’s violent enforcement of sit-at-home orders.

The Nigerian government has also taken notice, with the Defence Headquarters declaring Ekpa “wanted” for terrorism, kidnapping, and other crimes.
