Somalia: Deadly explosion rocks cafe during Euro 2024 final match

A devastating bomb blast outside a crowded cafe in Mogadishu, Somalia, has claimed the lives of at least five people and injured twenty others.
The explosion occurred on Sunday evening, July 14, as patrons were watching the European football final between Spain and England.
Euro 2024
England’s bid for a maiden major trophy since 1966 was cruelly denied once again as Spain claimed a dramatic 2-1 victory in the Euro 2024 final at the Olympia stadion in Berlin.
Substitute Mikel Oyarzabal’s late strike sealed Spain’s record fourth European Championship title, leaving England to ponder another agonizing near miss.
For Spain, this triumph marks a historic fourth European Championship title, cementing their status as one of the greatest national teams of all time.
Their impressive display in Berlin will be remembered for years to come, and they will be celebrated as heroes back home.
According to eyewitnesses, a car loaded with explosives detonated outside the cafe, causing widespread destruction and chaos.
The blast destroyed several vehicles and damaged nearby properties, leaving a scene of devastation in its wake.
Mohamud Salad, a staff member at the cafe, confirmed that five people had died in the attack, with twenty others injured.
Fortunately, those inside the cafe at the time of the blast survived, although the building sustained significant damage.
Somali police have confirmed the attack and the casualty figures, but the identity of the perpetrators is still unknown.

About Al-Shabab
Al-Shabab is a terrorist organization based in East Africa, primarily operating in Somalia.

It emerged in 2006 as a splinter group from the Islamic Courts Union (ICU) and has since become a prominent extremist group in the region.
