The Nigeria Labour Congress—NLC and the federal government appears to be heading for a serious showdown tomorrow (Tuesday) after the former turned down the reconciliatory meeting arranged by the Minister of Labour and Employment, Simon Lalong, to halt the two-day impending warning strike already declared by the union.
The leadership of the Trade Union Congress, led by its President, Festus Osifo, according to PUNCH only showed up for the meeting scheduled for 3pm but which however, began at exactly 5:32pm.
Recall that NLC in a communique jointly signed by its national president, Joe Ajaero and Secretary, Emmanuel Ugboaja, said it decided to embark on a two-day warning strike following what it described as the failure of the present administration to dialogue and engage stakeholders within the organised labour on efforts to address the effects of fuel subsidy removal on Premium Motor Spirit on the “poor masses”.
The organised labour in August had staged a one-day protest, which grounded activities in major cities across the nation.
