Nigerian defender Ryan Alebiosu has opened up on how his maiden invitation to the Super Eagles transformed his mentality and boosted his confidence during one of the most demanding periods of his professional football career.

The Blackburn Rovers full back described his first experience with the Nigerian senior national team as a dream fulfilled, admitting that representing Nigeria at the international level gave him renewed motivation and belief in his ability to compete among elite footballers.

Alebiosu enjoyed a breakthrough campaign during the 2025/26 English Championship season, emerging as one of Blackburn Rovers’ most reliable defenders despite the club battling through a difficult season near the relegation zone.

The 24-year-old right back featured prominently throughout the campaign and quickly established himself as an important member of the squad due to his consistency, pace and defensive discipline.

His performances eventually attracted the attention of the Super Eagles coaching crew, leading to his first senior national team invitation ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

For Alebiosu, the invitation represented far more than just another football achievement.

The defender revealed that receiving recognition from Nigeria became one of the proudest and most emotional moments of his life, especially because he had always dreamed of representing the country of his heritage on the international stage.

Speaking after the conclusion of the Championship season, Alebiosu admitted that the national team call-up significantly changed his confidence levels both mentally and professionally.

“When it happened, it felt unreal because it was always a dream for me,” Alebiosu explained while reflecting on his first invitation to the Super Eagles.

“Representing Nigeria gave me more confidence in myself and made me believe there is still much more I can achieve in football.”

Born in England to Nigerian parents, Alebiosu was eligible to represent both countries internationally before eventually committing his future to Nigeria after securing his Nigerian passport ahead of the AFCON tournament.

His inclusion in the squad was viewed by many football observers as part of Nigeria’s broader effort to strengthen the national team with talented dual-nationality players competing across Europe.

Alebiosu eventually made his senior debut for the Super Eagles during Nigeria’s final group stage match against Uganda at the Africa Cup of Nations.

The young defender impressed supporters and analysts with his calmness, composure and attacking support from the right side despite the enormous pressure that often comes with an international debut at a major tournament.

Unfortunately, his tournament was cut short after he suffered a foot injury during the match.

Despite the setback, Alebiosu remained positive about the experience and insisted that the opportunity to play for Nigeria strengthened his determination to continue improving.

Reports from within the Super Eagles camp also praised the defender’s professionalism and commitment after he reportedly chose to remain with the squad in Morocco during his recovery period instead of immediately returning to England.

That gesture further increased admiration for the player among Nigerian supporters, many of whom believe he could become a key figure in the national team for years to come.

At club level, Alebiosu’s performances were equally important for Blackburn Rovers during a challenging campaign in the English Championship.

The defender made 39 league appearances during the season and contributed one goal alongside five assists while helping the club avoid relegation.

Although Blackburn struggled with inconsistency for large parts of the campaign, Alebiosu remained one of the team’s standout performers through his work rate, defensive awareness and willingness to support attacking movements.

Football analysts have repeatedly highlighted his versatility as one of his strongest qualities.

Apart from his defensive ability, Alebiosu has also shown confidence in possession, intelligent positioning and the stamina required to operate effectively as a modern attacking full back.

His development has attracted growing interest from football followers in both England and Nigeria, especially as the Super Eagles continue rebuilding ahead of future international competitions.

Nigeria’s coaching crew, led by coach Éric Chelle, has recently focused on introducing younger and more energetic players capable of strengthening the squad ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers and upcoming Africa Cup of Nations tournaments.

Alebiosu is widely viewed as one of the promising defenders who could play a significant role in Nigeria’s long-term plans.

Although he was omitted from the squad for the upcoming Unity Cup and international friendlies against Portugal and Poland, many supporters remain confident that he will soon return to the national team because of his steady development and consistency at club level.

Former Super Eagles players have also encouraged the national team coaches to continue monitoring emerging talents abroad who possess the quality and mentality required to succeed internationally.

The increasing number of Nigerian-eligible players performing well across Europe has created healthy competition within the Super Eagles setup and strengthened expectations surrounding the future of the national team.

For Alebiosu, however, the journey is only beginning.

The defender insists that his experience with Nigeria has increased his hunger for success and inspired him to work even harder ahead of next season.

He believes his first taste of international football has shown him the level required to compete at the top and remains determined to become a regular member of the Super Eagles squad.

With his confidence continuing to grow and his performances steadily improving, Alebiosu appears ready to establish himself as one of the next important defenders in Nigerian football.

As the Super Eagles continue preparing for future challenges on the continental and global stage, the rise of players like Alebiosu offers fresh hope for supporters eager to see Nigeria return to the summit of African football.
