Supermoon To Shine Brighter And Bigger In Night Sky On Wednesday

(DDM) – Sky watchers around the world are in for a celestial treat as the moon is set to appear slightly larger and brighter on Wednesday night during what NASA describes as the closest supermoon of the year.

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) reports that the astronomical phenomenon, known as a supermoon, occurs when the moon reaches its full phase at the same time it is closest to Earth in its orbit, a point called perigee.

According to NASA, this alignment makes the moon appear up to 14% larger and 30% brighter than the faintest full moon of the year.

November’s event marks the second of three supermoons visible in 2025, with the next one expected in December.

Astronomers note that while the difference in size may not be dramatically noticeable to the casual observer, the enhanced brightness creates a spectacular view, especially during moonrise and moonset.

Dr. Marcia Dunn, an astrophysicist and space science communicator, explained that the moon’s proximity to Earth during a supermoon not only influences its appearance but also slightly increases ocean tides, known as perigean spring tides.

She added that the best time to view the phenomenon will be just after sunset, when the moon appears larger near the horizon due to the moon illusion effect.

Around the world, astronomy enthusiasts and photographers are already preparing to capture the rare moment, with many describing it as a symbolic reminder of nature’s vast beauty and cosmic rhythm.

NASA has encouraged the public to step outside and enjoy the sight, noting that no special equipment is required, just clear skies and an unobstructed view of the eastern horizon.

As the bright supermoon lights up the night, stargazers are reminded that this glowing spectacle is another natural wonder connecting Earth’s observers to the mysteries of the universe.
