Teachers in Askira Uba, Biu, Chibok and Hawul LGAs are to embark on an indefinite strike

over nonpayment of 18 thousand naira minimum wage.

The teachers  who are from LGAs of southern Borno worst hits by Boko Haram attacks lament how they have been marginalised and been discriminated upon in the state’s teachers’ salaries scheme.

A press statement signed by the National Union of teachers (NUT) Biu LGA chapter of the union, Comrade  Habu Suleiman and presented  to Journalist in Yola says they are not satisfied the way and manner the new minimum wage is paid.

Comrade Suleiman further explained that “despite being in same state and same Primary Education  Board, they are discriminately paid; where some LEAs are receiving 60%, some 40%,some 30%,some 20%, and some 0%, their counterparts in the state ministries are receiving 100%”.

Habu also laments that the effected LGAs were always on routine verification since 2011 to 2013 but the committees could not okay their new salaries to be implemented.

Rather, they sacked many teachers, many others run months of unpaid salaries with serious deduction of their yearly increment, while all their leave grants and promotion were totally seized.

He reiterated that insurgency did not deter them from work even though they live under high threats of attacks (only Chibok and Askira Uba schools were totally closed them because of non-stop of Boko Haram militancy).

He concluded that the Government should not equally forget their members staff who though on retirement for more than year could not receive pension or gratuity, but decided to remain at home on schools resumption as it is the weapon used to address their problems.
