Attack in Borno State: 2 Killed by Boko Haram

No fewer than 12 people have been killed by suspected Boko Haram fighters in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State.

According to reports, the attacks happened within 24 hours along Kirawa Road and Bokko Ghide community in Pulka District.

Emir of Gwoza, Alhaji Mohammed Shehu Timta, confirmed the killings in an interview on Saturday April 26.

He said two members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) were ambushed and killed along Kirawa road on Friday April 25, 2025.

According to him, ten firewood scavengers were also ambushed and killed in a nearby bush on Saturday.

Timta expressed deep shock over the renewed attacks on Gwoza communities and other parts of Borno.

He warned that these attacks could sabotage the government’s efforts on reconstruction, rehabilitation, and resettlement of displaced persons.

“These renewed killings are capable of frustrating our people’s return to normal life,” he lamented.

He revealed that the victims have been buried according to Islamic rites, while the injured were evacuated to Maiduguri.

Timta prayed for the souls of the dead and wished the injured a quick recovery.

“We know the government and the military are doing their best,” Timta said.

“But more needs to be done, especially in technology and better equipment to confront these terrorists,” he added.

The Emir also expressed concern that the attacks would discourage farmers from cultivating this year’s crops.

He said many farmers would now be scared to visit their farmlands.

The attacks came barely a day after Governor Babagana Umara Zulum called for aggressive military operations.

Zulum made the appeal while receiving a high-powered Federal Government delegation in Maiduguri on Friday.

The delegation included the Minister of Defence, Alhaji Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, and the Chief of Defence Staff.

Governor Zulum urged the military to launch sustained attacks on insurgents in their hideouts.

He said such measures were necessary to end the over-decade-long insurgency in Borno State.

The governor stressed the need for modern warfare tools and better intelligence gathering.

He pledged continued support for the security agencies to defeat insurgents across the state.
