Welcome to Nnewi Motorcycle Spare Parts Market, the wheel that moves the nation
Traders cry to Governor Soludo to hurry to their aid

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM), in our continued efforts to be an agent of development in Anambra State, on Friday, April 25, 2025, paid a visit to the infamous Nkwo Nnewi Market.
First, we visited “The New Motorcycle Spare Parts Market” where it took a tour of the shops in the market.
It was obvious that the market, like every other market looked busy, with traders doing their best to sell their wares.
The market as DDM discovered was into sales of motorcycle spare parts. But the challenges were also glaring.
The crew, led by the General Manager, Mr. Tim Elombah, also paid a visit to the ‘Seaport’ area of the market.
This area has more of artisans who were into remodeling of motorcycle parts and electricians, as well as other people with different crafts.
The crew met with the Chairmen of these markets and they recounted things like challenges they are facing and how the State government could come to their aid.
First to speak was Mr. Denis, the Chairman of New Motorcycle Spare Parts.
He mentioned that the market, to the best of his knowledge had stayed over 50 years.
He gave us a hint into the fact that his position as Chairman, was conferred on him by appointment.

Denis said that it is not easy coordinating affairs as Chairman.
But knowing that he has capable hands supporting him, he can always deliver.
The market, according to him, has only one branch in Nigeria (Nnewi branch) for now.
He noted that business has dropped and they were no longer making sales like they used to.
This he said was due to the current economic situation of the country and the sudden influx of the Chinese into this line of business.
He preferred not to speak further because according to him, there were things better left unsaid.
He also highlighted the issue of erosion which the market was seriously facing.
The Chairman said the State government had on two occasions made promises of fixing the erosion challenge.
But they have not seen any action taken by the government.
Mr. Denis also mentioned that individuals/traders are their own sources of power supply, noting that most of them have resorted to solar power.
He said that since his assumption of office as the market’s Chairman, three years ago, there has not been power supply into the market.
He made DDM know that anyone who wants to sell in the market does not have to go through any hassle.
All the person needs to do is contact him or any of his EXCO (Executive Committee) and they will direct the person to the agent who will conclude the process.
Mr. Denis requested DDM to visit them again to get more information from other Chairmen of other lines in the market.
This he said would enrich our store of information that we can pass to the State government.
On his own part, Mr. Chima of Seaport said most of the people in his own area are more of artisans.
He said he too, was appointed.
Coordinating people, according to him, depends on how he, as the leader, presents himself, and he has been getting their support.
Chima lamented the issue of erosion which affected their market, far more than other markets, was so, because their corner of the market appeared to have been abandoned.
He also lamented the issue of power supply and pleaded with the State government to come to their aid.
Mr. Chima said they were tired of seeing people come to take videos, and they do not get to see any change.
He pleaded with DDM to make their coming to be the difference that would bring the desired change in their market.
The Chairman complained bitterly that they were once asked to pay tax for the improvement of conditions in the market.
Unfortunately, he lamented, nothing came out of it.
The crew took her time to look round these markets, and indeed they need the quick intervention of the state government.
Their gutters are blocked, which is purely the reason for the erosion issues.
These blockades have resulted to foul smells oozing from the said area.
One cannot help but wonder the kind of diseases that these traders hustling for their daily bread could be facing.
We join voices with them to beg the State government to hurry to the aid of ‘New Motorcycle Spare Parts’ and its ‘Seaport’ counterpart.
This would obviously put smiles on their faces and give them more energy to push for their daily bread, in good health.
