Tinubu attends and engages in African Union summit in Addis Ababa

President Bola Tinubu has arrived in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, for the 38th African Union Heads of State and Government Summit.
Diaspora digital media (DDM) reviled that the summit runs from February 14 to 18, 2025, bringing together African leaders to discuss key continental issues.
Tinubu’s arrival was confirmed in a statement by Bayo Onanuga, his special adviser on information and strategy.
The statement, titled “President Tinubu Arrives Ethiopia for AU Summit,” highlighted his reception at the Addis Ababa Bole International Airport.
He was received by Ethiopian Deputy Chief of Protocol, Eshetu Legesse, and Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar.
Nasir Aminu, the charge d’affaires of the Nigerian embassy in Ethiopia, was also present at the reception.
Nigeria plays a crucial role in the African Union, influencing policies on security, economy, and continental development.
Minister Tuggar briefed President Tinubu on key diplomatic victories achieved by Nigeria during the union’s engagements.
One major achievement was the re-election of Bankole Adeoye as African Union commissioner for political affairs, peace, and security.
Nigeria also retained its seat on the African Union Peace and Security Council, reinforcing its leadership in regional peace efforts.
Tuggar emphasized that this achievement reaffirmed Nigeria’s dedication to continental stability and security.
The high-level briefing lasted until about 2 a.m. on Friday, involving key government officials.
Attendees included ministers of finance, defence, trade and investment, aviation, and information and national orientation.
Other officials present were the director-general of the National Intelligence Agency and the chief of naval staff.

The African Union summit centers on the theme “Justice for Africans and People of African Descent Through Reparations.”
