Tinubu’s govt puts presidential jet up for sale in Switzerland

The Nigerian government has listed its nearly 20-year-old Boeing 737-700 Business Jet (BBJ) for sale in Switzerland, following the acquisition of a new Airbus A330 presidential jet.
The sale comes as the Tinubu administration faces increased public pressure to cut costs and enhance transparency in government expenditure.
Aircraft marketplace Controller shows the BBJ is currently undergoing inspection and sale preparations at AMAC Aerospace in Basel, Switzerland.
This same aviation firm helped facilitate the recent Airbus purchase.
The BBJ has a five-zone layout for 33 passengers and 8 crew members, with amenities including a private bedroom with shower, VIP office, conference and dining area, and satellite internet.
The BBJ was acquired in 2005 under President Olusegun Obasanjo and has logged nearly 4,000 flight hours and 1,881 landings.
Recall that the presidency took delivery of an Airbus ACJ330-200 in July 2024, which is now the official presidential jet.
A malfunction on a previous flight raised concerns over the BBJ’s reliability and growing maintenance costs.
The aircraft is not enrolled in any engine maintenance program, and both engines are listed as “on condition.”
The asking price and specific sale timeline have not been disclosed by AMAC Aerospace or the Nigerian government.
