As the November 8, 2025, gubernatorial election approaches in Anambra State, a strong and unmistakable call for political transformation is sweeping through the region.

The determination of the electorate to bring about meaningful change in the state’s leadership is not only evident but has grown into a united and overwhelming movement.

This is especially among the people of the Old Aguata Union.

This sentiment was unmistakably clear during a recent gathering at Ndikelionwu in Orumba North Local Government Area.

At the gathering, Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu, the All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial candidate, was hosted during his “Thank You” tour.

The tour was part of his appreciation efforts following his victory at the APC primaries.

The event drew an enthusiastic crowd, underscoring the growing support for his candidacy.

Speaking at the event, a prominent figure in the area, Chief Tagbo Ike, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), did not mince words in expressing his disappointment with the current administration under Governor Charles Soludo.

He lamented that the political zone, which had hoped for visionary leadership, instead contributed to the state’s current administrative woes.

According to Chief Ike, the people had been subjected to untold hardship by the very leadership they once supported, calling the experience a bitter disappointment.

Chief Ike decried the use of brutal enforcement tactics by state agents under the current government, describing them as inhumane and excessively harsh.

“We never imagined that a man as intellectually accomplished as Prof. Soludo would struggle so badly with governance.

“Our expectations were high. Anambra is a state filled with educated, exposed, and enterprising citizens.

“Managing such a population shouldn’t be rocket science,” he stated.

The speaker further criticized the outdated and oppressive taxation methods currently in use, which have made life unbearable for ordinary citizens and discouraged local investment.

According to APC supporters in Anaocha Local Government Area, the tax regime imposed by the Soludo administration feels more like an instrument of oppression than a tool for development.

“What we’re experiencing today is far from the African Dubai-Taiwan dream he promised.

“Instead, our people are being harassed, extorted, and intimidated,” one supporter said.

Reports from various communities suggest that violent enforcement has led to injury, unlawful detentions, and even deaths.

Small business owners, artisans, and local investors, many of whom were persuaded to return home and contribute to the state’s economy, now regret their decision, fearing for their safety and sustainability.

This betrayal has left many wondering what happened to the grand vision of economic transformation that once inspired hope.

To make matters worse, while essential governance issues remain unaddressed, critics claim the governor has focused on trivial matters.

They claim he has focused on matters such as targeting traditional healers and harassing women over dress codes.

Such misplaced priorities have further alienated the administration from the real needs of the people.

The Old Aguata Union, comprising Orumba North, Orumba South, and Aguata LGAs, has therefore resolved to withdraw its support from Governor Soludo.

Once hopeful supporters have now decided that the state deserves a new direction, one that prioritizes security, economic development, and the dignity of every citizen.

As a result, the political bloc has thrown its weight behind the Ukachukwu/Ekwunife APC ticket, viewing it as a credible alternative capable of restoring Anambra to a path of prosperity and responsible governance.

Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu, known for his business acumen, and Senator Uche Ekwunife, a seasoned lawmaker with a track record of effective representation, are being seen as the team that can offer Anambra a better future.

With this growing momentum, it is clear that political tides are shifting.

“All roads now lead to APC,” chanted a chorus of supporters as they rallied around the new ticket.

The people of Anambra State are no longer content with broken promises and harsh policies, they are ready to reclaim their future, and the countdown to change has officially begun.
