Tiwa Savage: ‘Infidelity isn’t a deal-breaker’

Tiwa Savage, a prominent figure in the Afro beat music scene, has shared her perspectives on relationships and deal breakers during an interview on ‘The Receipts’ podcast, hosted by Tolly T and Audrey.

During the conversation, the 44-year-old singer disclosed that infidelity, in her opinion, is not a relationship deal-breaker.

She cited that she has never terminated a relationship solely due to cheating.

According to Tiwa Savage, her non-negotiables in a relationship include issues like drug abuse, emotional neglect, and ghosting, which she considers more severe than infidelity.

The singer elaborated on her stance, stating, “While infidelity has never been the sole reason for me to end a relationship, I have parted ways with partners due to more severe issues, including substance abuse, emotional neglect, and being ghosted.”

Tiwa Savage a renowned Nigerian singer, songwriter, and actress, was born on February 5, 1980.

Her music style is characterized by a unique blend of afro beats, R&B, afro pop, pop, and hip-hop, often sung in English and Yoruba.

Savage’s notable contributions to the Nigerian music industry have garnered her numerous accolades.

Tiwa Savage’s debut studio album, Once Upon a Time, was released on July 3, 2013, and featured seven singles, including “Kele Kele Love” and “Eminado”.

The album received nominations for Best Album of the Year at the 2014 Nigeria Entertainment Awards and Best R&B/Pop Album at The Headies 2014.

In November 2018, Tiwa Savage made history by becoming the first woman to win the Best African Act award at the MTV Europe Music Awards.

The following year, in May 2019, she announced her record deal with Universal Music Group and her departure from Mavin Records.

The 13-track album features collaborations with renowned artists, including Sam Smith, Stefflon Don, and Davido.

Tiwa Savage released her second extended play, Water & Garri, on August 20, 2021.

The five-track EP features collaborations with notable artists, including Nas, Brandy, and Amaarae.

On July 15, 2022, Tiwa Savage was conferred an honorary doctorate in music by the University of Kent during a graduation ceremony held at Canterbury Cathedral.

Personal life

Tiwa Savage was previously married to Tunji “Tee Billz” Balogun, with whom she had a traditional marriage ceremony on November 23, 2013, and a white wedding on April 26, 2014.

Feud with Seyi Shay and leaked video

On June 8, 2021, the artist was involved in a public altercation with fellow artist Seyi Shay at a salon in Lekki, Lagos.

In October 2021, Tiwa disclosed to Angie Martinez on Power 105.1 that she had been blackmailed over a compromising video featuring herself and her partner.
