Troops from the 1 Brigade, in collaboration with the Department of State Services (DSS), intercepted a significant cache of weapons in the Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
Subsequently, the operation took place between January 26 and January 27, following intelligence reports about suspected arms dealers from Niger Republic, according to military sources relayed by Zagazola Makama.
Moreover, the troops initiated a covert operation to track the suspects, which led to a pursuit along the Kaura Namoda-Zurmi road.
Although the suspects attempted to escape by veering into the bush, they ultimately abandoned their vehicle after engaging with the troops.
Upon searching the vehicle, authorities recovered several items, including two PKT machine guns, nine AK-47 rifles, thirteen magazines, 171 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, and nine rounds of PKT ammunition.
Despite these efforts, the suspects successfully managed to escape the scene.
In addition, the source indicated that security forces are ramping up efforts to locate and apprehend the fleeing suspects.
