Troost-Ekong  quits PAOK, joins Al Khalood in Saudi Arabia

William Troost-Ekong, the Nigerian defender, has officially left PAOK FC to join Al Khalood FC in Saudi Arabia.

The move comes after a successful spell at PAOK, where Troost-Ekong played a crucial role in the team’s championship win and earned individual accolades, including the Most Valuable Player award at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

In an emotional farewell message, Troost-Ekong thanked everyone at PAOK FC, including the President, club staff, medical team, General Lucescu, assistants, and his teammates, who he described as “family.”

He also expressed gratitude to the fans for their support, especially during difficult times.

“Toumba is something special, and now I understand what MONO PAOK means,” Troost-Ekong said, referring to the club’s passionate fan base. “I wish everyone another successful season, and I will continue to follow PAOK.”

William Troost-Ekong’s career trajectory is a testament to his dedication, hard work, and passion for football.

The Nigerian defender began his professional journey in 2013, signing with Gent in Belgium.

He quickly made a name for himself, earning a move to Haugesund in Norway, where he spent two seasons before joining Bursaspor in Turkey.

Troost-Ekong’s breakthrough came in 2017 when he signed with Bursaspor, establishing himself as a key player in the team’s defense.

His impressive performances caught the attention of Udinese, leading to a transfer to the Italian Serie A club in 2018.

During his time at Udinese, Troost-Ekong honed his skills, becoming a reliable and dominant force in the defense.

In 2020, Troost-Ekong made a significant move to Watford FC in the English Premier League, where he played a crucial role in the team’s promotion to the top flight.

His success at Watford led to a loan move to PAOK FC in Greece, where he won a championship title and earned individual accolades, including the Most Valuable Player award at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
