Trump Claims Gaza Ceasefire Near, Critics Slam Lack Of Proof
DDM News

Donald Trump, President of the United States, has claimed that a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas in Gaza may happen “within the next week.”
Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) reports that Trump made this statement while addressing reporters on Friday, though he offered no concrete details about the negotiations or who he spoke with.
“It’s close, in my opinion,” Trump said, suggesting optimism based on discussions with unnamed individuals involved in ceasefire efforts.
Journalist Nour Odeh, reporting from Amman, Jordan, challenged Trump’s assertion, stating that “no negotiations are currently taking place anywhere in the region.”
Nevertheless, she acknowledged that such a statement could offer psychological relief to Gaza’s war-torn population.
Odeh further explained that recent discussions about a ceasefire had intensified following tensions between Israel and Iran.
However, Israel remains unwilling to halt its offensive.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is seen as reluctant to embrace a ceasefire unless significant concessions are made, possibly in exchange for normalization deals with Arab states under U.S. mediation.
Meanwhile, Hamas has reiterated that any future ceasefire must include a full Israeli military withdrawal and guarantees that Israel will not re-enter Gaza.
According to Odeh, Hamas also demands that the United States act as a sustained mediator to ensure ceasefire commitments are upheld.
Trump’s remarks come amid mounting global outrage over Israel’s continued military actions in Gaza.
Reports by Israeli newspaper Haaretz allege that commanders ordered soldiers to shoot unarmed Palestinians approaching humanitarian aid centers.
These claims have sparked international condemnation.
Gaza’s Health Ministry says nearly 550 Palestinians have been killed near aid distribution sites backed by the U.S. and Israel.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres stated, “People are being killed simply trying to feed themselves and their families.”
Doctors Without Borders has called the situation “slaughter masquerading as humanitarian aid.”
No official confirmation or further details on Trump’s ceasefire claim were provided by his special envoy, Steve Witkoff.
Previous ceasefire talks involving Witkoff collapsed in March after Israel resumed bombings across Gaza.
The blockade of food, fuel, and medicine by Israeli forces continues to cause immense suffering for Gaza’s 2.1 million residents, who remain on the brink of famine.
