President Donald Trump and President Vladimir Putin talk on the phone on how to end Ukraine war

US President Trump on Friday expressed his concerns about the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine’

He stated that “Russia is absolutely pounding Ukraine on the battlefield”.

He also urged both countries to negotiate a resolution, emphasizing the need for them to “get to the table right now”.

This statement comes amid escalating tensions between Russia and Ukraine, with significant implications for global politics and security.

US president Donald Trump says he is “strongly considering” widespread sanctions and tariffs on Russia until Moscow and Kyiv agree a peace deal.

This was after Russia launched more than 200 missiles and drones at targets across Ukraine in one of its largest attacks this year.

He wrote on his social-network platform, Truth Social:

“Based on the fact that Russia is absolutely ‘pounding’ Ukraine on the battlefield right now, I am strongly considering large scale Banking Sanctions, Sanctions, and Tariffs on Russia until a Cease Fire and FINAL SETTLEMENT AGREEMENT ON PEACE IS REACHED.”

Earlier, Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky called for an enforced “silence in the sky”.

Zelensky had written on his Telegram handle, “The first steps to establishing real peace should be to force the sole source of this war, that is, Russia, to stop precisely such attacks against life”.

Ukraine’s air force announced on Friday morning that Russia had fired 67 missiles and 194 drones at targets across Ukraine.

According to them, this is one of the  largest attacks on Ukraine since this year.

They said they shot down 34 of the rockets and 100 drones, with 86 additional unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) having disappeared in the air.

Ukraine’s energy minister Herman Halushchenko said the attack had targeted energy and gas infrastructure across the country.

At least eight people were injured in Kharkiv.

Last week Friday, Trump accused Zelenskyy of prolonging the conflict to continue receiving American support.

This led to heightened tensions and discussions about the future of US military aid to Ukraine.

Trump says he considers sanctioning Russia because it’s ‘pounding’ Ukrainian troops.
