The United State (US) President, Donald Trump, has launched investigations into the admissions policies of Stanford University, UC Berkeley, UCLA, and UC Irvine, the U.S.

The US Department of Justice announced this on Thursday March 27, 2025.

According to the U.S. Attorney General, Pam Bondi, this moves aims to determine if the universities are complying with the 2023 Supreme Court ruling.

The Supreme Court ruling has banned affirmative action in college admissions.

Trump has taken strong measures to dismantle diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs, which his administration claims discriminate against White and Asian American students.

Schools and colleges have been warned that they risk losing federal funding if they continue using race-based preferences in admissions and scholarships.

The latest action comes after the U.S. Department of Education revealed this month that it was investigating 52 universities for alleged racial discrimination in their admissions processes.

Speaking on the matter, Attorney General Pam Bondi said:

“President Trump and I are dedicated to ending illegal discrimination and restoring merit-based opportunity across the country.

“Every student in America deserves to be judged solely based on their hard work, intellect, and character, not the color of their skin,” she added.

Reacting to the development, Stanford University said it had already taken steps to ensure that its admissions policies align with the Supreme Court ruling.

“We continue to be committed to fulfilling our obligations under the law,” Stanford stated.

The school, however, noted that it had not been given specific details regarding why it was being investigated.

The University of California system has yet to issue a response to the Justice Department’s investigation.

In a separate move, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services said it was investigating a major medical school in California for racial discrimination in admissions.

However, the name of the institution was not disclosed.

Additionally, the administration is also investigating California Department of Education over law shielding student gender identity changes from parents.

The investigations have sparked controversy as universities and educational institutions across California brace for possible policy changes.
