Trump says it’s ‘too late’ for Iran talks as strikes enter fourth day

United States President Donald Trump has rejected the possibility of immediate negotiations with Iran, despite Tehran signaling a willingness to engage in talks.

“Their air defense, Air Force, Navy, and Leadership is gone. They want to talk. I said ‘Too Late!’” Trump wrote in a Truth Social post on Tuesday, reversing comments he made two days earlier suggesting openness to dialogue.

The announcement comes as the conflict between the United States, Israel, and Iran enters its fourth day, following coordinated strikes launched on February 28, 2026.

The campaign targeted Iranian leadership, air defenses, missile installations, naval assets, and command facilities.

The US and Israeli strikes resulted in the deaths of several senior Iranian officials, including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, prompting state media in Iran to declare a period of national mourning.

Iran has retaliated with missile and drone attacks across the Middle East, striking US military bases, Israeli targets, and Gulf allies, including infrastructure in the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia.

The US military has confirmed six American service members killed so far.

Trump characterized the military campaign as essential for neutralizing threats posed by Iran’s ballistic missile program and nuclear ambitions, describing it as the “last best chance” to protect the United States and its regional allies.

The administration’s messaging reflects a mix of continued military resolve and limited diplomatic engagement, leaving uncertainty over whether talks with Iran could resume in the near term.
