Two die in Niger mining pit

Two men have died from the collapse of a mining pit in Farin-Doki, Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State.

It was gathered that the miners were operating illegally at the site.

The victims, Buhari Kano and Mallam Tasiu, hailed from Kano State.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent of Police Wasiu Abiodun, said operatives from the Erena Division, with residents, were told about the matter.

“Unfortunately, both individuals were found lifeless. Their bodies have been deposited at Zumba Hospital for further examination, he a said.

“Preliminary investigations suggest the miners were operating illegally at the site during the night prior to the incident. A full investigation is underway to determine the exact circumstances leading to the collapse”, he said.
