Two people have been confirmed dead following a machete attack at IMAX Cinemas in Lekki, Lagos State, on Friday night.
The incident occurred after a man armed with a machete and knife reportedly attempted to enter the cinema but was stopped by security guards.
According to eyewitnesses, the man became violent after being denied entry and attacked the security personnel.
The Lagos State Police Command spokesperson, SP Adebisi Abimbola, confirmed the incident, saying one security guard was stabbed to death while another was injured.
She added that the suspect was later attacked by a mob and died from injuries sustained during the incident.
“Two people have been confirmed dead,” Adebisi said.
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident, including the identity of the suspect and the events leading to his death.i
The Chief Security Officer of the cinema has also been taken into custody as part of the investigation.
The police said they were working to obtain and review CCTV footage from the cinema to establish what happened and determine whether anyone else was involved.
