Two women arrested in Imo State for attempting to sell kidnapped child

The Imo State Police Command has arrested two women attempting to sell a kidnapped four-year-old boy.

The boy was taken from Abuja while hawking vegetables and brought to Owerri for the transaction as reported by Diaspora Digital Media (DDM).

Joy Ugwu from Idah, Kogi State, and Rosella Michael from Zamba, Abuja, were arrested on April 14.

The police action followed a covert operation based on credible intelligence about the child trafficking plot.

The suspects were negotiating to sell the boy for ₦2.7 million when they were intercepted.

The boy, identified as Jaffa Umar, speaks fluent Hausa and was abducted while hawking vegetables in Abuja.

A third suspect, believed to be a nurse, is still on the run.

The child was rescued and reunited with his family through coordination between the Imo Police and Zone 7, Abuja.

The police spokesperson, DSP Henry Okoye, confirmed that the boy’s safe return was a direct result of the operation.

Following their arrest, the suspects were transferred to the Zonal Criminal Investigation Department in Abuja for further questioning.

The investigation is ongoing, and the police are committed to uncovering the full details of the trafficking attempt.

The police urged the public to report any suspicious activity to the nearest station or emergency line.

CP Aboki Danjuma reassured citizens of the command’s determination to protect vulnerable persons and dismantle trafficking networks.

The case has drawn attention to child trafficking, a persistent issue in Nigeria.
