United Bank for Africa (UBA) reaffirmed its commitment to gender diversity, equality, and empowerment on International Women’s Day 2025.
This year’s theme, “Accelerate Action”, aligns with UBA’s mission to promote inclusion and create opportunities for women in the workplace.
Diaspora digital media (DDM) reports that UBA continues to champion gender empowerment by fostering an environment where women excel in leadership and professional roles.
On Wednesday, the bank graduated 1,138 trainees from its Graduate Management Accelerated Programme (GMAP), with women making up 58%.
The graduation ceremony at Landmark Event Centre highlighted UBA’s ongoing efforts to nurture female talent and leadership potential.
UBA’s Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Oliver Alawuba, emphasized the institution’s strong commitment to gender inclusion.
He stated that UBA does not just advocate for inclusion but actively implements policies that promote gender diversity.
Alawuba highlighted that UBA’s female-dominated Board and Executive Management team reflect its dedication to gender parity.
“Our commitment goes beyond policies; it is evident in the real opportunities we create for women at all levels,” he said.
Alawuba praised the contributions of women to the bank’s growth and success over the years.
“At UBA, we do not just celebrate women—we amplify them,” he added.
He stressed that an inclusive workforce fosters innovation, excellence, and long-term success in the corporate world.
UBA’s recent GMAP cohort, dominated by women, underscores the bank’s dedication to accelerating female career progression.
The bank consistently invests in programs that support female professionals, entrepreneurs, and leadership development.
UBA continues leading gender inclusion efforts through mentorship, leadership training, and women-focused financial services.

UBA’s Group Head of Human Resources, Modupe Akindele, reaffirmed the bank’s commitment to supporting employees regardless of gender.

“We ensure every woman has the support, resources, and opportunities required to thrive,” Akindele stated.
She explained that the GMAP initiative equips young professionals with essential skills for leadership and career advancement.
“Our goal is to show young professionals that their dreams are achievable right here in Africa,” she added.
