The United Nations human rights office is calling for an investigation into the deadly attack on a girls’ school in Iran, urging the forces responsible to probe the incident and share findings.
“This is absolutely horrific,” said Ravina Shamdasani, spokesperson for the UN human rights office, highlighting the destruction and cruelty of the conflict.
The attack, which occurred on February 28, reportedly killed 150-165 students, with Iran labeling it “unjustifiable” and “criminal”.
The US and Israel have denied targeting the school, with the US saying it “would not deliberately target a school”.
Iran’s ambassador to the U.N. in Geneva Ali Bahreini had previously raised the issue with Turk in a letter dated March 1, calling the attack “unjustifiable” and “criminal”.
He said the attack had killed 150 students.
Turk’s office does not have enough information to make a determination as to whether the strike constituted a war crime, Shamdasani said.
