Dr. Ikenna Erinne, a 36-year-old Nigerian-born cardiologist based in the United States, has tragically passed away following a court ruling that required him to pay $15,000 in monthly child support to his ex-wife.

The incident occurred on Sunday, January 26, 2025.

Dr. Erinne, originally from Anambra State, had been engaged in a lengthy legal battle over divorce and child custody.

Diaspora digital media (DDM) reports indicate that the court’s decision placed him under significant financial strain.

Additionally, it was alleged that he lost his medical license amid the legal proceedings, further compounding his difficulties.

Nigerian-American Clayton Udo, in a post on X.com, discussed the challenges Dr. Erinne faced, highlighting the financial and emotional burden the ruling placed on him.

Udo, who identifies as an expert in psychological and mental abuse, noted that the doctor had spent substantial amounts on legal fees before the case was decided against him.

He suggested that the situation had a severe impact on Dr. Erinne’s well-being.

Another member of the Nigerian community in the U.S., Obim Onujiogu, confirmed Dr. Erinne’s passing in a Facebook post, remembering him as a dedicated medical professional and a caring father.

“In loving memory of Dr. Ikenna C. Erinne. It is with heavy hearts that the ASA DC family announces the sudden and untimely passing of Dr. Ikenna Erinne,” Onujiogu wrote.

“Born on March 4, 1988, Dr. Erinne was a compassionate healer and devoted family man.

He is survived by his children, Ugonna and Munachi, his parents, Engr. Chris and Mrs. Chinwe Erinne, and his siblings, Chuks, Onyi, Kenny, and Gechi.”
