We backed Nollywood flick to promote cancer awareness- Former first lady

Former first lady of Kwara State, Deaconess Omolewa Ahmed, has explained why her pet project, the LEAH Foundation, backed a recent movie, ‘Diamond In The Sky’, saying that it was all in the bid to promote cancer awareness.

Featuring Omowunmi Dada, the movie sets to promote the war against the deadly cancer.

Deaconess Ahmed urged women and government to double up awareness on the dangers and ravages of cancer warning that ailment should call for concern.

While statistics on women coming down with the disease in the North Central is largely unknown, Deaconess Ahmed, on Saturday, stated that efforts should be made to get more women aware of it.

She made this call while leading several women and groups on endurance walk round Ilorin metropolis.

She was particular about breast and cervical cancers among women.

Through her LEAH foundation, she started the campaign since 2016 when it was evident that women were not sufficiently aware of the ruinous effect of the terminal ailment.

She told newsmen that her Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO,) had penetrated the hinterland in its bid to capture those in the grassroots.

According to her, passion for womenfolk started 13 years ago while in office, I was able to zero-in on crusade against cancer.

She said: “this is calling for me, its my ministry that is why it has survived my office as the first lady.”

She urged Nigerians to act on awareness and campaigns on health issues, “people should ensure proper adherence to awareness on their general health especially instances that can lead to terminal ailment.

Nollywood artiste, Omowunmi, disclosed that she accepted to play the lead role in the flick because of her belief in womanhood, encouraging girl-child and women to always ho for cervical cancer screening.

Omolewa advised women to take their physical being more seriously than daily chores, saying: “that is why we have been going even to the local governments to preach against breast cancer, we want to at all cost avoid mortality stage,” she stated.
