Wizkid sets new record on Spotify

Ace Nigerian artist, Ayodeji Balogun, popularly known as Wizkid, has set a new Spotify record for the biggest streams by any song.

The superstar’s recently released album titled “Morayo” has claimed the number 1 spot on the Apple Music Nigeria Chart, with all his tracks dominating the charts to positions.

One of his singles from the album titled “Kese (Dance)” set the record for the highest opening day stream on Spotify Nigeria with 1.5 million streams.

Another single “Piece of My Heart” also surpass 1 million opening day streams on Spotify.

How do you know Wizkid?

Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, popularly known as Wizkid, is a Nigerian singer and songwriter who has taken the music world by storm.

With a career spanning over a decade, Wizkid has evolved from a local talent to a global superstar, putting Afrobeats on the international map.

Born on July 16, 1990, in Surulere, Lagos, Wizkid’s love for music was evident from a young age. He began singing in his church choir and formed a group called the Glorious Five with his friends.

After completing his secondary education, Wizkid pursued a career in music, releasing his debut single, “Holla at Your Boy,” in 2010.

Wizkid’s big break came in 2011 with the release of his debut album, “Superstar,” which included hits like “Tease Me” and “Don’t Dull.”

The album was a commercial success, establishing Wizkid as a rising star in the Nigerian music industry.

However, it was his collaboration with Drake on the 2016 hit single “One Dance” that catapulted Wizkid to global fame.

The song, which also featured Kyla, became a massive hit, topping the charts in several countries, including the US, UK, and Canada.

Wizkid’s subsequent albums, “Sounds from the Other Side” (2017) and “Made in Lagos” (2020), solidified his position as a global music sensation.

Wizkid’s impact on Afrobeats cannot be overstated.

He has been instrumental in popularizing the genre globally, paving the way for other African artists to break into the international market.

His music often blends traditional Yoruba sounds with modern production techniques, creating a unique sound that resonates with listeners worldwide.
