Super Eagles head coach, Eric Chelle, is gearing up for a visit to Cairo, Egypt, to lend his support to Nigeria’s Flying Eagles at the ongoing 2025 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) continues to follow the progress of Nigerian teams in international tournaments, including the efforts of the Flying Eagles.

Chelle’s presence in Cairo is not only a morale booster but also an opportunity for him to assess the young talents on display before making his final selections for the upcoming Unity Cup Invitational in London.

According to the Flying Eagles’ media officer, Shariff Abdallah, Chelle is scheduled to arrive at the team’s base at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Cairo on Monday, 5th May 2025.

This marks an important moment in the tournament as Chelle’s visit is expected to offer both tactical and emotional support to the players as they continue their campaign in the prestigious youth competition.

Chelle’s involvement highlights the deep connection between the senior Super Eagles and their U-20 counterparts.

The Flying Eagles, managed by coach Aliyu Zubairu, are currently competing in one of Africa’s most high-profile youth tournaments.

In their opening two matches, the Flying Eagles secured one victory and one draw, putting them in a strong position as they head into their final group-stage encounter.

The Nigerian U-20 side is set to face Kenya’s Rising Stars in their last group match at the June 30 Stadium in Cairo on Wednesday, 7th May.

A draw will be sufficient for Zubairu’s men to advance to the quarter-finals, bolstering hopes of yet another successful campaign for the seven-time U-20 AFCON champions.

The Flying Eagles’ current form in the tournament is promising.

Their opening match saw them secure a hard-fought win, which was followed by a commendable draw against a tough opponent.

This solid start has kept them in contention for a place in the next stage of the competition, and all eyes are now on their final group fixture against Kenya.

For Chelle, his role extends beyond simply offering support to the Flying Eagles.

His time in Cairo will also serve as an opportunity to observe the emerging talents who may eventually step up to join the senior team.

As the head coach of the Super Eagles, Chelle is keen on identifying promising players who can strengthen the senior squad in future competitions.

His observations in Egypt could play a critical role in shaping the future of Nigerian football.

This tournament is also significant as it sets the stage for future international fixtures.

With the 2025 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations being a vital platform for young players to showcase their skills, the Flying Eagles will look to build on their early successes and push for a strong finish in the competition.

As the Flying Eagles aim to secure a quarter-final spot, the support of experienced figures like Chelle provides invaluable guidance and encouragement.

Their journey in Cairo represents the hope of many Nigerians who continue to invest in the country’s footballing future, from grassroots to the senior team.

Chelle’s visit is a reminder of the continuous efforts to elevate Nigeria’s footballing profile and ensure its place among Africa’s top football nations.
