Former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, has officially obtained the governorship nomination form of the African Democratic Congress ahead of the 2027 election in Kebbi State.

Malami announced his decision on Saturday through a statement shared on his social media platforms, saying he could no longer remain silent over what he described as worsening insecurity, poverty, economic hardship, and the declining state of education and healthcare in Kebbi.

According to him, the state is facing a deep governance and humanitarian crisis, with alarming figures in areas such as out-of-school children, maternal mortality, malnutrition, and insecurity.

The former minister claimed that more than 67 percent of children between the ages of six and 15 in the state are out of school, while over 88 percent reportedly live in multidimensional poverty.

He also expressed concern about the healthcare system, saying many rural communities still lack access to proper antenatal care and other basic medical services, while maternal deaths remain high.

On insecurity, Malami said bandit attacks and kidnappings have continued to disrupt daily life across several communities, forcing farmers away from their lands and leaving businesses operating in fear.

He accused the current administration of focusing on the wrong priorities at a time residents are battling serious economic and security challenges.

Declaring what he described as a “State of Emergency on Misgovernance” in Kebbi, Malami promised to focus on security, education, healthcare, agriculture, and youth empowerment if elected governor in 2027.

He said his ambition is rooted in accountability, service, and sustainable development, insisting that Kebbi residents deserve leadership that delivers practical results rather than “empty propaganda.”

“There will be no retreat and no surrender in the collective struggle to rescue our state,” he stated.
