Osun poll: ADC candidate congratulates Adeleke, says politics not do or die affair

The African Democratic Congress governorship candidate in the Osun State governorship election, Najeem Salaam, has congratulated Governor Ademola Adeleke on his re-election, saying the outcome of the poll showed that democracy had prevailed.

Salaam, in a congratulatory message to Adeleke, said the decision of the electorate must be respected regardless of political differences.

He said the election had given the people the opportunity to exercise their democratic right, adding that their choice deserved respect and support.

According to him, political contests would always produce winners and losers, but differences should not be allowed to threaten peace, unity and brotherhood in the state.

“Politics is not a do-or-die affair. The people have spoken; democracy has prevailed,” Salaam said.

The ADC candidate urged Adeleke to use his second term to address areas where his administration may have fallen short while consolidating its achievements.

He said governance was a continuous process and every administration had areas that required reflection, correction and improvement.

Salaam also urged the governor to govern for the benefit of all residents, irrespective of their political affiliations.

“Osun belongs to all of us. Beyond party lines and political differences, our collective responsibility is to build a state where every citizen can live with dignity, security and hope for a better future,” he said.

He wished Adeleke a successful second term, expressing hope that it would bring greater development, peace and prosperity to the people of the state.

Adeleke, who contested on the platform of the Accord Party, won the election with 511,067 votes.

The All Progressives Congress candidate came second with 444,815 votes, while Salaam polled 17,180 votes.
