All six council chairman are now to set up their own vigilance group and units but with strict and stringent recruitment process, it has been learnt by DDM.

This detail emerged as part of the resolution that came from a strategic security meeting, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Barr. Nyesom Wike had with traditional rulers and council chairman in the nation’s capital.

But the minister however added that the recruits must be properly profiled and their details sent to relevant security agencies.

According to minister, the new policy is to emphasize collaboration with traditional rulers.

“We have asked all the Area Councils to set up vigilance teams, and we believe that those vigilance teams won’t be the ones perpetrating the crimes.

“Therefore, they must be profiled so that they are known.

“Who are they?

“Are they from our communities?”

Highlighting the importance of working in synergy, Wike urged the council chairmen and traditional rulers to actively participate in addressing security challenges.

He assured support for law enforcement, stating, “We have told the police and other security agencies to itemize all their needs, and we are going to meet them.”

The minister believed that the security measure demanded such urgency.

“Insecurity is not written on anybody’s face. Anyone can be a victim, and that is why we must do everything possible to ensure that our subjects are not victims of these criminals,” he said.

The minister further stressed that part of the security measures extended to renewed demolition of shanties, explaining, “Criminals won’t want to live in known houses.
