Super Eagles goalie gets state honor, cash gifts from home governor

Stanley Nwabali, Super Eagles goal keeper and surprise discovery of the recently concluded All African Cup of Nations, AFCON, has been awarded honours by his home state, Rivers in Nigeria while also getting cash gifts to boot.

Similaya Fubara, the governor, joined the train of eminent people to shower the Chippa United of South Africa keeper with gifts.

President Bola Tinubu, last week awarded the Super Eagles who won silver at the AFCON national awards while also giving them landed properties.

But Governor Fubara confers a state honour, “Distinguished Service Star of Rivers State” (DSSRS) Nwabali, also gifting him N20 million following his exceptional performance at the just concluded 2023 AFCON in Ivory Coast.

Fubara also splashed Rivers Hoopers Basketball team N50 million for their emergence as champions in the Louis Edem National league competition, urging Rivers people to continue doing positive things that would promote the state and attract honour.

Fubara while hosting Nwabali at the Government House Port Harcourt on Friday also gave the Super Eagles coaching crew who were present N30 million.

The governor commended the Rivers born footballer for his excellent goalkeeping in the Super Eagles team, playing alongside other patriots that made Nigeria proud in the championship.

“I want to join the great and wonderful people of Rivers State to congratulate you, our brother Stanley Nwabali and our wonderful team.

“We are here again in just about four months after winning a local trophy.

“Today, you have brought a national trophy.

” So, when people say or talk behind to ask what we are doing, we are achieving those things that are not, maybe, seen physically but they give joy and fulfillment,” the governor said.
