WTO DG Race: Okonjo Iweala expresses gratitude to US, Buhari & Nigerians for their support

The former Minister of Finance in Nigeria, Dr Ngozi Okonjo Iweala has expressed gratitude to the United States government, President Mohammadu Buhari and Nigerians in general for their unflinching support for her in the race to become the Director General of the World Trade Organization (WTO).

Dr Ngozi who is a renowned Economist also congratulated the South Korean counterpart who was in the race with her before her sudden withdrawal.

Okonjo through her verified Twitter handle said, “Grateful for the expression of support from the US today for DG @WTO.

“Congratulations to Madam Yoo of Rep. Korea for a hard fought campaign.Thank You President Muhammadu Buhari @MBuhari &all Nigerians for your unflinching support.Thank you friends. Love to my family. Glory to God.”

Recall that Dr Okonjo Iweala who is a Nigerian born US citizen came under heavy pressure after the former US president, Donald Trump kicked against her candidature, adding that the economic guru doesn’t have what it takes to lead the of global economic organization.

However, the hope of Dr Ngozi Okonjo Iweala leading the global organization was resurrected after president Trump was flawed in the last presidential election in the United States.
