Downstream Sector: Senator Ubah reiterates commitment on adequate support

The Vice-Chairman,  Senate committee on Petroleum (Upstream), Senator Dr Patrick Ifeanyi  Ubah, has reassured Nigerians that he will always put in his best towards the development of the petroleum industry.

The Senator made this known during a visit by the National Assembly Joint Committee on Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB) to Imo State in order to assess petroleum exploration and production impact on host communities.

The Anambra South Senator reassured his constituents, Ndị Anambra and Nigerians in general that he will always utilize his long term experience as a stakeholder in the operations of the downstream sector to make adequate recommendations on how to promote the sector and develop host communities.

He however urged host communities, to remain law abiding and protect petroleum pipelines and other facilities of the petroleum industry in their respective localities.

In his remarks, leader of the National Assembly Delegation, Senator Albert Bassey Akpan, who first led the team of 15 Senators and House of Representatives members along with their  secretarial staff  to pay a courtesy call on Imo state govenor, H.E Senator Hope Uzodimma, also reassured Nigerians and  host communities of the petroleum industry that the National Assembly would always sponsor and support legislations that  promote their wellbeing.

Senator Akpan, further highlighted that the presence of the National Assembly Delegation in the state, was to assist both chambers of the legislative arm of government to get first hand information that will help in the ongoing processing of a Bill for an Act to provide Legal, Governance, Regulatory and Fiscal Framework for the Nigerian Petroleum Industry, the development of host communities and other related matters, populary known as Petroleum Industry Bill.

He reassured them, that the National Assembly would work closely with the executive arm of government to promote their wellbeing and develop their communities.

The Petroleum Industry Bill when passed, is expected to address critical challenges facing the Petroleum Industry and will also ensure that the promotion of the wellbeing of host communities of the industry remains a priority of the Nigerian government.
