Mr. Akaninyene Tommey, the Chairman of Eket Local Government Area, has called for peaceful coexistence amongst Nigerians in the face of the renewed insecurity across the country.

Tommey made the call while participating in the Ramadan fast breaking in Eket Central Mosque on Monday.

He advised those clamouring for division and beating drums of violence to desist from such act as this would hinder growth and development.

“There is great need for us to work together and avoid public disagreement, war will not do us any good, but making peace afterwards is really the way forward.

“So, those clamouring for division and beating drums of war should desist from such acts because they will definitely hinder growth and development.

“We should imbibe the ideals of Gov. Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom in protecting lives and property, which is the primary aim of governance,” he pleaded.

The chairman and his team, who were happily received by the Imam Eket Central Mosque, Abubakar Sodiq, took part in the session and exemplified high sense of religious tolerance.

Sadiq thanked the chairman for forbearance and love as the leader of Eket people, both indigenes and residents, and pledged to always pray for the leadership at all levels.

“We want to assure you that as far as the Muslim community is concerned, we are constantly praying for the peace of our nation.

“In Islam, if you are given a chance to say a prayer, usually it will be a prayer for the leadership; because if the leadership is right everything will be in order.

“Your peace is our peace and your success is our success, if the leader is doing well, the entire society will prosper as well,” he added.

The Imam took out time to offer prayers to the administration of Tommey and the entire Eket Local Government for growth, peace and development. (NAN)
