AAG 2023: Predictable Flying Eagles lose to less fancied Uganda

Combination of poor preparations and predictability in game approach proved the Achilles heel for Nigeria’s Flying Eagles after less fancied Uganda thrashed them on Thursday at male football category in the 2023 African Games.

Uganda (in yellow) said Flying Eagles were predictable.

The match ended 2-1 in favour of Uganda.
The team under Ladan Bosso had been in camp in Abuja were they prepared for the games but finally got to Accra Ghana on Tuesday.
“From their preparations to the execution of their game plan, the Nigerians were so predictable” said Ghanian journalist.
The Uganda bench made a point of this in their local media after the match.
“Bosso is well known in the age category football.
“So we took care of him,” one of the back room staff of the Ugandan team said.
It was Uganda who broke the deadlock in the 33rd minute through Arafat Usama after they seized control of the game.
Flying Eagles equalized in the 36th minute against the run of play as Sadiq Isyaka header in from a corner kick.
The Ugandans proved to be the better side, especially in the second half but Nigeria’s goalkeeper kept them at bay.
The Hippos finally got their well-deserved winning goal in the 81st minute after the Nigerian goalkeeper failed to handle Ivan Irinimbabazi’s long-range efforts.
Despite the pressure from the Nigerians, the Ugandan defenders did enough to see out the game.
