Future Eagles: UEFA Under-16 tournament kicks off without Nigeria

The UEFA Under-16 Development Tournament has kicked off in Spain with Nigeria’s Future Eagles not partaking.
The development was thanks to visa denial by the Spanish Embassy in Lagos, Nigeria.
With the denial, the Future Eagles missed an opportunity to play against Belgium, Italy, and England.
The tournament was meant to help the young Eagles gather experience for future tournaments but were denied.
How did the Future Eagles miss the tournament?
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has broken the news on its X, formerly Twitter handle, on April 8, 2024.
NFF had posted: “Players and officials of the Nigeria U15 team, Future Eagles, have been denied visas by the Spanish Embassy.
“[They] will therefore not be travelling to take part in the UEFA U16 Development Tournament starting on Friday.”
NFF did not, however, indicate the reason given behind the visa denial.
On its part, meanwhile, the Spanish embassy claimed that they did not deny the young Nigerians visas.
Rather, they said, “the applicants withdrew their applications at the consulate on Monday, 8th of April”.
The Future Eagles were set to leave April 9th before the news rang out and shattered young dreams.
The were billed to play their first match against Belgium on 12th, and later also play against Italy and England.
