In a dramatic turn of events, Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has ordered the five emirs who were installed by the previous administration to vacate their palaces within 48 hours.

The emirs, who were dethroned on Thursday, May 23, were given the ultimatum following the passage of the Kano State Emirate Council Law 2024 by the state House of Assembly.

The affected emirs are Alh. Aminu Ado Bayero and four others who were appointed by former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, who had split the Kano Emirate into five separate emirates.

However, Governor Yusuf has now restored Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi to the position of Emir of Kano, effectively reversing the changes made by his predecessor.

The move is seen as a significant shift in the political landscape of Kano State, and it remains to be seen how the affected emirs will respond to the ultimatum.

The development has sparked mixed reactions, with some hailing the decision as a step towards restoring the traditional authority of the Emir of Kano, while others have expressed concern about the potential consequences for the state’s political stability.
