Military Vows Fierce Retaliation After Soldiers Killed in Southeast

The Defence Headquarters has pledged a fierce and overwhelming response to the killing of five soldiers in Abia State during the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB)-sponsored Biafra Day on Thursday.

The military blamed IPOB and the Eastern Security Network (ESN) for the attack on Obikabia Junction checkpoint in Obingwa Local Government Area, which resulted in the death of the soldiers. However, IPOB has denied involvement in the killings.

Abia State Governor Alex Otti has placed a N25 million bounty on the perpetrators and pledged to support the families of the slain soldiers.

The five South East states of Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Imo are struggling to resume socio-economic activities disrupted by the sit-at-home protest. Traders and residents in the region are counting their losses after a day of violence and disruption.

The military has vowed to bring overwhelming pressure on the group to ensure their total defeat. The situation remains tense, with security forces on high alert and residents fearful of further violence.

The incident has sparked concerns about the escalating violence in the southeast and the military’s response. The international community is watching with concern, urging restraint and a peaceful resolution to the crisis.

As the situation continues to unfold, the people of Nigeria remain on edge, hoping for a swift and peaceful resolution to the crisis.
