MohBad: Lagos Court grants Naira Marley, Sam Larry bail

A Magistrate’s Court sitting in Yaba, Lagos State, has on Monday, granted bail to singer, Abdulazeez Fashola, popularly known as Naira Marley, and Lagos socialite, Samson Eletu, alias Sam Larry.

News Band had reported on October 4, 2023, that the court had ordered that Naira Marley and Sam Larry be remanded to police custody over the death of 27-year-old singer MohBad who died in September.

Magistrate Adeola Olatunbosun had given the order following the arrest of Naira Marley on Tuesday, October 4.

Granting the bail on Monday, the Magistrate ordered that the duo of Naira Marley and Sam Larry provide three sureties with a sum of N20 million to process their release.

In her ruling, Olatunbosun also ordered that they surrender their passports to the police and are to report weekly to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Panti, Yaba, Lagos State.

“As part of the bail conditions, the defendants are to surrender their passports and make weekly appearances at the State Criminal Investigation Department,” she said.

In the meantime, Naira Marley and Sam Larry have, through their counsel, Olalekan Ojo (SAN), filed a fundamental rights suit before the Federal High Court in Lagos to challenge their continued detention over the death of Mohbad.

The suit has the police and the Magistrate Adeola Olatunbosun, who ordered their remand in police custody, as defendants.

The plaintiffs asked the court to declare that their continued detention at the Lagos State Police Command in Panti since October 4, 2023, constituted a violation of their fundamental rights.

Naira Marley and Sam Larry each demanded N20 million in damages from the defendants.
